Paris Walk October 22, 2013

Directions

Meet at the American University of Paris.  We will be walking to the Arc de Triomphe, avoiding the scam artist who pretends to find a gold ring under your park bench, down the Champs Elysees, crossing over to Quai d'Orsay and back to Rue Cler. It's about 7.93 K including detours to have sex on the beach at the Renault Cars centre. (53, Avenue des Champs Élysées 75008 Paris) It's a bargain at 12 euros!

We'll be commencing the walk at 9:25 by walking back along Ocean Boulevard.  We'll continue over the bridge and Fort Rodd Hill (on the right) to enter the Royal Roads University grounds to take either the longer or shorter route depending on weather and hiker conditions on the day. (We could decide to stop off for an espresso at the Habitat Cafe) - Or we could walk it the other way round, starting at Royal Roads.

Royal Roads and Coburg Peninsular Tuesday Jan 24, 2012

It was a rainy day at around 9:30 when four water-resistent Ad Hoc Hikers started this walk. However, as on the last couple of walks, the rain stopped almost as soon as we started walking. We even caught glimpses of the sun as we made our way round this excellent hike. We saw a naval vessel quite near the shore with what looked like the crew in parade order both fore and aft.  Fortunately, although quite close to the shore, this ship wasn't the Costa Concordia, and il Capitano Francesco Schettino was not on board (as usual, you might say).

We checked out the remains of the cottage and garage in the RRU grounds en route to the Cheese House..

..and then made our way up Charlie's Trail. The mini waterfalls at the top of the first section of the trail were in full flow. Charlie's trail is slated for improvements this year.

This was a satisfying hike of about 8K; the RRU grounds were great and will allow for some variation as we do this hike again.

Walk up to and through Gore Park then trail to Oakhaven Park. Go up to viewpoint, down other side pick up trail down to road. Continue down to Wallace Dr. to Tod Inlet. At end of Tod Inlet take trail up to Butchart Gardens then another trail back to car.

We did this as June 15, 2013 Saturday Recon. We are doing it again on August 20, 2013, when we expect to have a special visitor from Smithers joining us.

Getting there

We will be taking the 10 am ferry from Beacon Pier next to the fish shop.

Car poolers will be leaving the centre at 8:30 to ensure time for free parking and getting tickets.  Those joining us at the ferry should be there in time for the 10am ferry.  We will be taking the 1pm ferry back, or possibly the 3 pm depending on how we feel.
